woman and child targeted by thrown plate at afl preliminary final.
A 47-year-old woman and an eight-year-old child were standing at the MCG following the AFL Preliminary Final when a plate of food was allegedly thrown at them.
According to Victoria Police, the plate was thrown towards the woman and child. Neither victim was physically injured, however the woman reported the incident to police the following day.
An incident such as this can be particularly distressing when it happens unexpectedly in a crowded public place. For a child, being the target of an object thrown by another person may also affect their sense of safety and confidence in similar environments, even where there is no physical injury.
The Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) may be of assistance to eligible victims who experience psychological injury or other adverse consequences of violent crime. Depending on the circumstances, financial assistance may include medical costs, counselling costs, loss of earnings, safety-related expenses, damaged/lost clothing costs and other recovery-related expenses in exceptional circumstances.
If you or a family member has experienced a similar incident, making an enquiry about the FAS can help clarify whether financial assistance may be available and what information may be required to support an application.
