tarneit man arrested after series of crimes in werribee.

Police have charged a man following a series of alleged incidents across Werribee, including a carjacking and attempted thefts of vehicles.

Police allege an offender entered a garage on Wyndham Street shortly before 11am on 26 August 2026, where a man was sitting in his running vehicle. The offender allegedly pulled the man from the driver's seat and stole the vehicle, which was later found abandoned nearby.

Later that day, police allege the offender approached a woman as she was placing her baby in a car on Shaws Road and attempted to steal the vehicle. A further alleged attempted carjacking involved a man sitting in his vehicle on the same road. Police reported that no one involved was physically injured. A 33-year-old Tarneit man has since been charged with numerous offences, including carjacking and attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

Even where a victim does not sustain a physical injury, being confronted during a carjacking or attempted carjacking can be a frightening and distressing experience. The psychological effects of violent offending may continue well after the immediate incident.

In Victoria, eligible victims of violent crime may be able to apply for financial assistance through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). Depending on the circumstances, financial assistance may be available for counselling and other costs associated with recovery.

If you have been affected by violent crime, making an enquiry can help you understand whether you may be eligible for financial assistance through the FAS.
