A Melbourne Porsche owner was allegedly threatened with a machete during a carjacking in Bentleigh, followed hours later by a dangerous police pursuit that ended in a serious collision on EastLink.
Police allege the owner was returning to a home in Bentleigh at about 9.20pm on Friday when three people confronted them. The group allegedly threatened the owner with a large kitchen knife and forced them to hand over the keys to the Porsche.
For the victim of a carjacking, being threatened with a weapon can have consequences extending well beyond any physical injury. Victims may experience anxiety, trauma and difficulty feeling safe in their own home or community. In Victoria, eligible victims of violent crime may be able to apply for assistance through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). Assistance may include counselling, medical expenses and other eligible costs associated with recovery.
If you have been affected by a violent incident, sending an enquiry can help you understand whether you may be eligible for FAS assistance and what support may be available.
