Being unexpectedly attacked in a public place can have lasting physical and psychological consequences for victims of crime. Even where injuries are described as non-life-threatening, victims may require medical treatment, counselling and time away from work or normal activities. In Victoria, eligible victims of violent crime may be able to apply for assistance through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). Depending on the circumstances, assistance may be available for counselling, medical expenses and other costs associated with recovery.
If you have been affected by a violent incident, sending an enquiry can help you better understand the support that may be available and whether you may be eligible to make an application.
