historical child sexual abuse in lilydale.

Knox Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are appealing for information following a complaint concerning historical sexual abuse in Lilydale.

Police received a complaint on 26 June 2026 from a woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted while she was a teenager and attended a doctor's office in Lilydale in the late 1970s or early 1980s. The medical clinic where the alleged incident occurred is no longer operating.

Detectives are investigating the complaint and believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward. Police have encouraged anyone with information or anyone who may have experienced similar offending to contact investigators.

For survivors of historical child sexual abuse, coming forward can be difficult, particularly where many years have passed since the alleged offending. Importantly, the passage of time does not necessarily prevent a person from seeking support. In Victoria, victims of historical child sexual abuse may be eligible to access financial assistance through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). The FAS can provide assistance to eligible victims for expenses associated with recovery, including counselling and psychological treatment. The availability of assistance depends on the circumstances and eligibility requirements applicable to the application.

If you experienced sexual abuse as a child, even if the offending occurred decades ago, sending an enquiry can help you understand whether you may be eligible for FAS assistance and what support may be available.
