The impact of violent crime is often felt long after physical injuries have healed. Many victims experience ongoing anxiety, sleep disruption, emotional distress or trauma that affects daily life and relationships. The Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) may provide financial assistance to cover the cost of counselling and psychological treatment required as a result of a violent offence. Access to appropriate support can be an important part of recovery.

 

Assistance may be available for both short-term and ongoing counselling, depending on the impact of the crime and supporting evidence from treating professionals. A criminal conviction of the offender(s) is not required for victims seek this support.
