Police have charged a 51-year-old man following an alleged assault at a licensed premises in Armadale that left a visually impaired man requiring hospital treatment.
Police allege the incident occurred shortly after 7pm on 25 July at a venue on High Street. A 64-year-old man, who is visually impaired and relies on a cane, was seated inside the premises when he was allegedly approached and repeatedly struck in the face by another man. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and discharged the following day.
The alleged assault resulted in multiple facial injuries, while the victim's prosthetic eye (valued at approximately $5,000) was damaged beyond repair and required replacement. His glasses were also damaged during the incident. A 51-year-old Mont Albert man has since been charged with intentionally causing injury and common law assault and is due to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.
