Police have arrested six people following a violent brawl involving machetes at Melbourne's busy Flinders Street Station.
According to police, up to ten people were involved in a fight inside the station concourse at approximately 10pm on Saturday night. Witnesses reported that some participants were armed with machetes, with the confrontation continuing as members of the group attempted to board a train. A 17-year-old boy sustained a serious laceration to his arm and was transported to hospital for treatment. Police later arrested six individuals aged between 13 and 22 in connection with the incident, with investigations continuing.
The incident has renewed concerns regarding youth violence and the use of edged weapons in public places across Melbourne. Violent incidents occurring in major transport hubs can have a significant impact not only on those directly injured, but also on witnesses, commuters and families exposed to traumatic events.
