widespread melbourne public transport concerns.

New crime data has revealed a significant increase in public transport-related offending across Victoria, with railway stations and train services accounting for the majority of reported incidents. Recent violent incidents have included assaults and weapon-related offences occurring on public transport networks across Melbourne.

For many victims of crime, exposure to violence while travelling can create lasting feelings of fear and anxiety, particularly where incidents occur unexpectedly in crowded public environments. The emotional impact of public transport violence can continue long after the incident itself, affecting confidence, wellbeing and everyday routines.

In Victoria, the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) may provide support for counselling, medical treatment and other recovery-related expenses for eligible victims affected by violent crime.

An enquiry can help individuals better understand available support and whether they may qualify for assistance.
