two men arrested following attempted carjacking.

Detectives from the Knox Crime Investigation Unit have arrested two men following an attempted carjacking in Scoresby in Melbourne’s outer east.

Police allege the incident occurred at a service station near the EastLink Freeway around midday on 22 March. A truck driver had parked the vehicle while a colleague briefly went to collect food. During that time, a red Subaru sedan allegedly pulled up alongside the truck and two male occupants exited the vehicle. The men allegedly demanded the keys from the driver and assaulted him when he refused.

The offenders then fled the scene in the Subaru, travelling southbound on EastLink. Police later arrested a 20-year-old man from Heathmont and an 18-year-old man from Carrum Downs, who are currently assisting investigators with their enquiries.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. However, incidents involving threats of violence, particularly in public places such as service stations, can be deeply distressing for victims and witnesses. In Victoria, individuals affected by violent incidents may be able to apply for financial support through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). The scheme assists victims of crime with expenses such as counselling, medical treatment and other recovery-related costs.

Understanding the available support options can be an important step for victims as they move forward after a traumatic event. If you have been affected by a violent incident, submitting an enquiry can help clarify whether you may be eligible to make an application under the scheme.
