Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a random stabbing that occurred in Carlton Gardens last week. Police allege a 24-year-old Canadian man was approached by an unknown offender on a footpath near Carlton Street shortly before midnight and stabbed in the hand during an unprovoked attack. The offender allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving the weapon behind. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

 

While the physical injuries may heal, violent and unexpected incidents can leave lasting emotional effects on victims of crime, particularly where the event appears random and occurs in a public setting.
