A 33-year-old man has been charged with 16 offences following a Victoria Police investigation into a series of alleged violent incidents and thefts across Melbourne's Port Phillip area.

Police allege the incidents occurred during July and August 2026 and included an alleged road-rage incident in Elwood on 11 August 2026, during which a machete was allegedly produced and a person threatened. Police also investigated an alleged hit-and-run collision in St Kilda East on 13 August 2026 and the theft of vehicles from St Kilda West and Albert Park. The accused was arrested in North Melbourne on 31 August 2026 after police located a stolen Toyota RAV4. He has been charged with offences including reckless conduct endangering persons, unlawful assault, possessing a prohibited weapon and dangerous driving, and he was remanded in custody.

For someone who has been threatened, assaulted or placed in fear during an incident like this, the effects can continue well after the immediate danger has passed. The Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) recognises that recovery from violent crime can involve more than treating a physical injury. Depending on the circumstances, eligible victims may be able to access financial assistance towards counselling, medical expenses and other recovery-related costs.

Seeking advice about the FAS can help a victim understand what assistance may be available and what steps are involved in making an application.
