port melbourne stabbing leaves elderly man injured.

A 71-year-old man was hospitalised after being stabbed during a morning walk in Port Melbourne earlier this week. Police allege that the man was approached by an unknown offender in an unprovoked attack and stabbed multiple times before the offender fled the scene. Emergency services transported the victim to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries. Authorities have since launched a search for the offender as investigations continue.

Random acts of violence such as this can have significant physical and emotional impacts on victims and their families. Even where injuries are not life-threatening, the experience can be lead to ongoing trauma and recovery challenges.

In Victoria, individuals harmed by violent offences may be able to apply for financial support through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). The scheme can assist victims of crime with counselling, medical costs and other expenses associated with recovery. If you have been affected by a violent incident, sending an enquiry can help improve your understanding of the support that may be available.
