how fas support helps victims recover after a violent crime.

Recovery after a violent crime is rarely straightforward. Many victims of crime experience emotional, physical, and financial challenges in the weeks and months that follow.

The Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) is designed to provide practical support during and after this period. Whilst it does not provide counselling in the traditional sense, it can provide financial assistance for costs of recovery. This may include counselling sessions, medical treatment, safety-related expenses, or other reasonable costs that arise as a direct result of the offence.

For many victims, this support can make a meaningful difference. Access to counselling or medical care without the added stress of financial pressure can help people focus on healing.

If you have been a victim of crime in Victoria, you may be able to access support through the Financial Assistance Scheme.
