financial assistance for family members of victims of violent crime

Violent crime rarely affects only one person. Partners, children, and close family members can experience significant emotional and psychological harm following an offence.

FAS recognises this broader impact and may provide financial assistance to eligible family members, particularly for counselling and psychological support. In serious cases, family members may also be entitled to assistance where the crime has resulted in serious injury or death.

Eligibility depends on the relationship to the victim and the nature of the harm suffered. Supporting evidence is usually required to demonstrate the impact on the family member.

If you are supporting someone who has been the victim of a violent crime in Victoria, or if you have been personally affected as a family member, it may be worth exploring whether financial assistance is available to you.
