man hospitalised after machete assault.

A 64-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after being slashed with a machete in Melbourne’s outer east early Tuesday morning.

Police reported that a group of teenagers went to the man’s Croydon property twice on the same night. The first attendance at 10.30pm involved throwing rocks at the house. When the group returned at 2.30am, the victim pursued them in his car. The chase ended on Manchester Road in Mooroolbark, where an altercation occurred and a member of the group allegedly used a machete to slash the victim before fleeing.

Authorities confirmed the victim sustained serious injuries and attended hospital. Police stated the teenagers and the man did not know each other prior to the incident and are seeking anyone with information or footage relating to the event. This incident follows another violent machete attack in Mernda, where a 22-year-old man was killed while trying to intervene in the robbery of a 14-year-old boy.

Violent assaults such as these can have profound physical and emotional impacts on victims. In Victoria, victims of crime may be eligible to apply for support through the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS). The scheme can provide assistance with counselling, medical treatment and other expenses associated with recovery.

If you or a loved one has been affected by a violent incident, sending an enquiry can help you understand the support that may be available and the steps involved in making an application.
